Technology

At Frith and Laird Optometrists, we are early adopters in technology and constantly invest in having the best equipment available to offer the highest standard of care.

We have the latest equipment to accurately diagnose and monitor eye conditions. Our specialty equipment includes:
An OCT (optical coherence tomography) machine is frequently used by both optometrists and ophthalmologists. An OCT scans the back of the eye, deep into the layers of the retina and optic nerve in high resolution. This helps detect many eye diseases in the back of the eye including glaucoma and macula degeneration.

Corneal topographers measure the shape of the front of the eye (cornea) creating a 3D map. Topographers are used to detect diseases of the cornea (such as keratoconus) and is used for fitting specialty contact lenses (such as orthokeratology).

A visual field machine measures the peripheral vision. The instrument is often used for the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, can also be used to help detect stroke, tumours, and other neurological conditions.
A new age of retinal imaging is now here, with the widefield retinal cameras.

These cameras help identify diseases such as retinal holes and detachments. Unlike, traditional retinal cameras, our Eidon widefield retinal camera allows images to be taken in the periphery up to 200 degrees (compared to 30 degrees of traditional cameras). This is important as many eye diseases occur at the edges of your retina.

The Zeiss IOL Master is used to measure the axial length of the eye, corneal curvature, and anterior chamber depth with exact detail. The is used in both pre-cataract surgery measurements and also for myopia control.

An intense pulsed light (IPL) device is used in different areas of medicine including dermatology, appearance medicine and also ophthalmology/optometry. In eye care, our E>Eye IPL device is manufactured in France and is used for dry eyes (meibomian gland dysfunction) as the machine directs sequenced light pulses to stimulate the oil glands in the eyelids and help them regain more normal function.
