An OCT (optical coherence tomography) machine is frequently used by both optometrists and ophthalmologists. An OCT scans the back of the eye, deep into the layers of the retina and optic nerve in high resolution. Corneal topographers measure the shape of the front of the eye (cornea) creating a 3D map. A visual field machine measures the peripheral vision. The instrument is often used for the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, can also be used to help detect stroke, tumours, and other neurological conditions.

The Zeiss IOL Master is used to measure the axial length of the eye, corneal curvature, and anterior chamber depth with exact detail.
